MIBI ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2022

Wednesday, 05 October 2022

The Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ireland (MIBI) was delighted to welcome guests for our annual conference on Friday 30th September.

This was the MIBI’s first in person event since before the pandemic and the first time we have been able to hold a non virtual annual conference since 2019.

So it’s fair to say the entire MIBI team was looking forward to this event, putting it mildly!

On the day we were honoured to have a strong selection of speakers tackling all the issues of interest to the MIBI, our members and our stakeholders. It was also fantastic to welcome so many of our partners, colleagues and those we regularly deal with on the day, bringing the total attendance to 120+.

After the conference was officially opened by our Chairperson, Jim Lynch – Head of Claims with AIG, there was a comprehensive and stimulating programme of topics covered.

Among the issues addressed were a detailed breakdown and implications of the 6th Motor Insurance Directive provided by Luk De Baere of the Council of Bureaux Secretariat in Brussels and our colleague Denis Smyth, MIBI Claims Operations Manager.

We were also joined by Tim Willoughby, Head of Innovation & Digital Services with the Garda ICT unit, who talked us through the latest innovations in policing, including details on the practical implementation of the ANPR/ IMID (Irish Motor Insurance Database).

There was also a fascinating presentation from Orla Hennebry and Keith Morrison of Willis Tower Watson who talked us through the Future of Uninsured Driving.

We were also greatly honoured to be joined by Minister for State with responsibility for Financial Services, Credit Unions and Insurance, Sean Fleming TD who provided the keynote speech.

Many of the in house MIBI experts were also on hand to provide details on specific areas of focus for the MIBI. Tom O’Brien guided us through the launch of the new Irish Motor Insurance Database and the further ramifications that will have on uninsured driving in this country.

While Ken McKinlay, MIBI Fraud Manager and Dermot Cogan, MIBI Recovery Specialist outlined the impact of the MIBI’s efforts in these areas and the results generated by our strategic approaches to both these key areas of MIBI operations.

All of this was brought together and smoothly managed by our MC for the event – and MIBI Head of Finance & Risk – Aisling Connolly.

I was also delighted to provide an overview of the work of the MIBI over the last year and where the next areas of focus will be for the Bureau.

We are hoping to provide some more details on some of the various presentations provided during the conference over the coming days, so please keep an eye on our website and social media channels for more details. This will include videos of the some of the presentations provided.

Before then however, on behalf of the MIBI I would like to thank all our speakers and everyone who joined us on the day for making it such a successful conference.
