GARDAÍ NOW RECEIVING FLEET DATA

The MIBI has begun providing fleet data from the National Fleet Database (NFD) to An Garda Síochána.

The insurance details for private vehicles, which represent the vast majority of vehicles on Irish roads and account for more than 3 million vehicles, were already being provided to An Garda Síochána and updated on a daily basis.

The Gardaí are now also receiving the fleet data which covers in excess of 250k fleet or motor trader vehicles operating on Irish roads. This relates to flexible, fleet style insurance policies which can be transferred within a specific fleet from one vehicle to another.

This continues the strong working relationship that has been established between the MIBI and An Garda Síochána on the management of this vitally important law enforcement tool and data sharing process.

Any fleet owners/ managers or motor traders responsible for vehicles whose details have not been added to the NFD may face legal sanctions. Potential penalties include facing prosecution in the District Court and being subjected to fines of up to €500 per vehicle.
